Teach students about Saint Patrick’s Day with educational bulletin board displays. If you have the money to purchase a bulletin board boarder of shamrocks, you can use those, or you can draw and cut your own out from green construction paper. Use a lighter shade green paper background so that the boarder will stand out.

Teach about Saint Patrick’s Day with Colorful Displays

Decorate a bulletin board with a map of Ireland, and have student’s research facts about the people, culture, foods and more, to display on the board. This is more appropriate for older students, as you teach them more facts about the origin of St. Patrick’s Day.

You can also use shamrocks, or three leaf clovers, as an interactive bulletin board to reinforce any skill you wish. Each Shamrock should be fixed only at the top, with a question or problem written on the outside. Underneath each Shamrock should be the answer, allowing students to check their own work.

Teach younger children about the light spectrum, and about the colors in a rainbow. The name Roy G. Biv teaches students how to remember each color and the order that they are displayed in. Have children either color with crayons or finger paint their own rainbows. They can also cut out rainbows from construction paper and you can display them around the room.

Saint Patrick’s Day Classroom Discipline Plan

For the month of March, have your students work towards good behavior with a special display. On one bulletin board, build a large portion of a rainbow, with a pot of gold at one end. Each student should have a green shamrock with their name, and must earn points to work across the rainbow to the pot of gold.

Specials teachers can modify this idea by having one shamrock per class. The pot of gold should indicate some sort of reward for good behavior. Use a cutout four leaf clover as a “caught you being good” award worth an extra point. Learn more ideas on creative discipline plan ideas.

By using your classroom displays to reinforce your lessons and teach students about Saint Patrick’s Day, you will add color and excitement to the learning atmosphere. Have your students help decorate the room to celebrate this fun March holiday. They can help color rainbows and draw their own version of Irish leprechauns to add to a fun display.
